Research in Motion (RIM) selaku produsen BlackBerry secara resmi mulai meluncurkan upgrade Blackberry PlayBook OS versi 2.0. RIM mengklaim memberikan sejumlah perbaikan yang lebih baik dari sebelumnya.
OS terbaru tersebut mulai tersedia secara global sejak hari ini, Selasa (21/2/2012) pukul 12.00 WIB. Upgrade tersebut dapat dilakukan secara gratis, langsung dari perangkat masing-masing.
“PlayBook OS 2.0 akan menyempurnakan OS PlayBook generasi pertama,” kata Country Product Manager RIM Indonesia, Ardo Fadhola, di The Apartment Menara Gracia Jakarta, Selasa (21/2/2012).
Dalam PlayBook OS 2.0 ini, memang tidak banyak aplikasi baru yang disertakan. Pihak RIM hanya meningkatkan kemampuan kapabilitas aplikasi yang sudah ada.
Berikut fitur-fitur PlayBook 2.0 yang bisa dicoba:
1. Tampilan
Tampilan PlayBook 2.0 merupakan penampilan yang disempurnakan. Tampilannya berbasis QNX, sama seperti Blackberry 10 OS yang akan diluncurkan pada tahun ini.
Di sini, pengguna bisa mengubah susunan widget atau tombol-tombol menu di layar tablet BlackBerry ini. Hal itu sesuai dengan keinginan pengguna melakukan kustomisasi widget.
2. Integrasi email, calender dan contact apps dengan social media
Untuk memudahkan menerima dan mengelola pesan, RIM tampaknya memperbaiki fitur ini. Pengguna bisa menerima email, calender (jadwal rapat, pertemuan atau apapun) dengan kontak dan sekaligus dihubungkan dengan media sosial dari teman di kontak.
Untuk mengunduh file yang besar, email yang ada di ponsel BlackBerry bisa disinkronisasi dengan PlayBook. Otomatis pengguna bisa mengunduh file yang besar di PlayBook melalui koneksi wifi.
3. BlackBerry Bridge 2.0
Di Bridge versi baru, perangkat BlackBerry bisa dijadikan remote kontrol untuk PlayBook. Bridge menghubungkan handset BlackBerry dengan PlayBook lewat Bluetooth.
“Otomatis ponsel BlackBerry kita bisa mengendalikan PlayBook, baik untuk presentasi, membuka aplikasi atau melakukan tugas apapun di tablet,” tambah Ardo.
4. Print to Go
Pengguna bisa melakukan cetak file melalui perangkat tablet secara langsung, baik lewat BlueTooth ataupun koneksi kabel dengan printer.
5. Aplikasi Android
Perangkat PlayBook 2.0 ini sudah menyertakan aplikasi berbasis Android yang langsung bisa diunduh di BlackBerry App World.
Hal ini dilakukan untuk memperluas basis aplikasi, tidak hanya berbasis BlackBerry OS saja tapi juga berbasis Android.
“Pengguna tidak akan tahu itu aplikasi Android atau aplikasi BlackBerry yang biasa ada di App World. Semuanya jadi satu,” katanya.
RIM telah memiliki sekitar 10.000 aplikasi di App World. Namun RIM enggan menjelaskan jumlah aplikasi Android yang tersedia di App World.
6. Video Chat
Pengguna bisa melakukan chat dengan teman di perangkat PlayBook secara langsung atau bisa juga dikoneksikan dengan TV High Definition. Uniknya, pengguna bisa tetap chatting sambil membuka aplikasi yang lain.
7. Web Experience
Semua web di PlayBook 2.0 ini sudah mendukung Adobe Flash Player 10.1 dan HTML 5. Intinya, pengguna bisa membuka web di PlayBook sama seperti di desktop atau PC.
“Kita juga bisa mengaktifkan fitur Reader Mute yaitu mengambil berita atau tulisan di web dan menyingkirkan halaman iklan, sehingga membaca tulisan di web lebih optimal dan lebih nyaman,” tambahnya.
7 Playbook Features in OS 2.0
Research in Motion (RIM) as the manufacturer of BlackBerry officially begin rolling upgrade Playbook Blackberry OS version 2.0. RIM claims to provide a number of improvements are better than ever.

In the Playbook OS 2.0, is indeed not many new applications are included. RIM only enhance the capabilities of existing applications.
The following features Playbook 2.0 to try:
1. Display
Display Playbook 2.0 is an enhanced appearance. Distance-based QNX, like the Blackberry OS 10 to be launched this year.
Here, the user can change the order of a widget or menu buttons on the screen of this BlackBerry tablet. This was in accordance with the wishes of the user to customize the widget.
2. Integration of email, calendar and contact apps with social media
To make it easier to receive and manage messages, RIM seems to improve this feature. Users can receive email, calendar (schedule meetings, or whatever) with a contact and well connected with the social media from a friend in contact.
To download a large file, email on the phone can be synchronized with the BlackBerry Playbook. Automatic user can download a large file in the Playbook via wifi connection.
3. BlackBerry Bridge 2.0
In the new version of Bridge, BlackBerry devices can be used as remote control for the Playbook. Bridge connects to the Playbook BlackBerry handset via Bluetooth.
“Automatically we can control the phones BlackBerry Playbook, both for the presentation, open an application or perform any task on the tablet,” Ardo added.
4. Print to Go
Users can print files directly through the tablet device, either via Bluetooth or cable connection to the printer.
5. Android Applications
The device is already included Playbook 2.0 Android-based applications that can be directly downloaded on BlackBerry App World.
This is done to broaden the application base, not only based on BlackBerry OS, but also based on Android.
“Users will not know that Android applications or applications that used to exist in the BlackBerry App World. All of them together,” he said.
RIM already has about 10,000 apps in the App World. But RIM is reluctant to explain the number of Android applications available in App World.
6. Video Chat
Users are able to chat with friends in the Playbook directly or can be connected to High Definition TV. Interestingly, users can still chat while opening another application.
7. Web Experience
All the web at this Playbook 2.0 supports Adobe Flash Player 10.1 and HTML 5. In essence, the user can open the web in the Playbook same as on a desktop or PC.
“We are also able to activate Reader Mute feature that is taking the news or writing on the web and get rid of ad pages, so read the writing on the web is more optimal and more comfortable,” he added.
